Research Associates (RA) Program in Emergency Medicine
St. Vincent's Medical Center, Bridgeport CT
The Chief RAs:
work directly with the Program Director in managing the program as
administrative assistants.
  • immediate supervisors for the on-line RAs working on shift in the
    emergency department, fielding the daily issues that arise
  • maintain the database of the RAs' schedule, attendance and
    performance evaluations.
  • are part of the recruiting process, giving presentations on the
    program to local colleges
  • are members of the teaching team, along with faculty and
    principal investigators, for the training program instructing the
    new RAs.
Chief Research Associates - what
are active participants in all aspects of the studies being conducted and studies under development.
  • attend and have input at all research meetings.
  • this includes presentation of studies to the Institutional Review Board for ethical approval.
  • receive instruction on clinical research methods and issues.
  • work closely with the Program Director in identifying and overcoming the problems in producing
    research in the sometimes difficult environment of the ED.

are expected to
  • complete a project as the principal investigators or associate investigators on larger projects from
    concept through preparation for publication
  • present research material at various regional, national and international meetings
  • are expected to contribute to the level of authorship on all the studies they work on during their
    tenure.

commit to working
  • approximately twenty (20) hours per week
  • from late May through the August when they begin medical school
